Endodontics – teeth are forever

Endodontics refers to root canal treatment.  Every healthy tooth contains nerves within its centre which enter the tooth via the root canals.  Advanced tooth decay, trauma or tooth fracture and in some cases advanced gum disease can cause the tooth nerve to become diseased and painful.  If root canal treatment is not carried out the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be extracted.

Dr Elizabeth Hoy is a member of the British Endodontic Society and is a registered specialist in endodontics.
